Carbon Mobile - RF compatible carbon-fiber

Carbon-fiber weave

Company: Carbon Mobile
Founded: August 2015
Headquarters: Berlin, Germany
Funding: $500K pre-seed, $1M euro seed

Carbon Mobile was established in 2015 to challenge the status quo of consumer electronics by replacing traditional metals and plastics with advanced carbon-fiber composites. Leveraging its patented HyRECM technology, an innovative process that fuses carbon fibers with signal-transparent composite materials. The company delivers devices that are thinner, lighter, stronger, and fully radio-compatible. The first proof of concept, the Carbon 1 MK I, debuted at GITEX 2019, quickly followed by the market-launched Carbon 1 MK II in March 2021, earning recognition in over 500 articles across 48 countries.

Why They Matter

E-waste surpasses 50 million tons annually, with only 20 percent recycled. Carbon Mobile’s material science breakthroughs promise to slash resource use and extend product lifecycles through lightweight monocoque designs and user-repairable architectures. By integrating sustainability at the atomic level, the company aligns with multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, advancing circular-economy practices in consumer electronics.

Traction

The Carbon 1 MK II achieved early profitability, selling out its first 1,000 units and securing partnerships with Qualcomm for the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Carbon Fiber Edition, unveiled at CES 2024. Manufacturing was relocated to Germany in 2025 to reduce emissions and support local jobs, while a collaboration with Cleanhub ensures each device sold funds the removal of 500 g of ocean plastic. Industry accolades include the Red Dot Design Award (2021) and the JEC Composites Innovation Award (2021).

Investment Thesis

Carbon Mobile sits at the convergence of materials science and sustainable hardware, unlocking new design frontiers and addressing the global e-waste crisis. Its proprietary HyRECM technology establishes a strong intellectual-property moat, while strategic OEM partnerships and on-shoring production enhance margins and ESG credentials. As demand for eco-friendly electronics accelerates, Carbon Mobile is poised for rapid expansion into adjacent mobility and industrial-IoT sectors.
